My friend sent me this link – what is LDCRF about?
LDCRF is a dog and cat rescue organization, that focuses on saving dogs and cats from euthanasia in shelters with high euthanasia rates, or that still use gas chambers as a method of euthanasia. We take the animals in, and spay or neuter, vaccinate and heartworm (dogs) or FIV/FELV (cats) test them, and provide them medical care that they need to get them ready for adoption. We house them in foster homes and our facility, and run 10 adoption events every weekend in the DC metro area to help them find homes. We are a volunteer run organization, and rely on volunteers to staff our events.  Since our inception in 2001, we have found homes for over 18,000 dogs and cats – and winning this will help us save even more lives!!

What is Best in Shelter?
It’s a brand new competition, spearheaded by mystery writer Martha Grimes. She was inspired by a “best in show” dog competition, and from it brought life to the idea of a virtual dog show that featured real shelter dogs up for adoption. Four organizations submit four videos of dogs up for adoption each. The video with the most votes will win $50,000 for their respective organization! Second and third place contestants also win a substantial amount. We are competing against furry contestants from Washington Humane, Washington Animal Rescue League and Animal Welfare League of Arlington. Each organization can only have one winner (first second or third). We all know how cute shelter pets are, so the competition is steep!

If there are four videos, does it matter which one I vote for?
Every  vote counts, as we love each of the dogs that we have entered – so we ask that you cast your vote for any one of our four amazing contenders. The video that has the most votes among the four organizations will win, so make sure to vote daily for your favorite!

How do I vote?
Voting is easy, and is completely anonymous, as it doesn’t require you to enter any of your personal information at all. You simply go to the Best in Shelter website, and select the video of the LDCRF dog we want to win, and click the star next to it. You’ll see the star change to text that says “thank you for your vote!” once you have voted.

Can I vote multiple times each day?
No, the contest limits each voter to one vote per day.

If you win the $50,000, what will LDCRF spend it on?
Because we are a volunteer run organization with no paid admin staff, the money will go directly to the care of the animals. You can also view our financial information on GuideStar or at the bottom of this page here.

Voting Instructions:
Please remember you can only vote for ONE dog, of the twelve entered – once you case your one daily vote, you won’t be able to vote for anyone else that day.
