Abby's gentle face and petal-drop ears are a perfect picture of the sweet dog that she is. She's a very loving and sweet dog that fully gives her heart. Abby is also quite the playful girl and is happy to have fun with her family. This wonderful dog is already housetrained and knows the commands of sit, stay, and come. She was taken to a county shelter because her owners were moving. Abby loves to belong, so she's always very affectionate and loyal. Can you give her a place in your family? Abigail

Thank You Overseas family of TISchloss for becoming the Pal for Paws Sponsor of Abigail

Sex: Female
Age: Approx. 12 years
Color: White
Size: Approx. 6 lbs.
Status: Available with foster
Good With Kids: Older Children
Good With Cats: Yes *** see note above
Good With Dogs: Yes

Rumor has it that Abigail was a model for the Far Side comic. We aren't sure about that, but we know she's a complete charmer--loving, amusing, and perky. Yes, she has it all...well, everything except teeth. Our senior lady lost them all so now her tongue often lolls out of her mouth. She just uses it as a great opportunity to generously give licks to everyone. Abigail is very much a sweet and affectionate dog that loves to be in a lap. This precious pooch follows you and gently places her paws on you for attention. She's housetrained but needs to go out more often as she has gotten older. Abigail is a quiet and tolerant girl who grooms well and enjoys car rides. She knows the commands of sit and come, and she's good on a leash. Her former owners took her to a county shelter after having her for three years because they are now expecting a baby. Because of her age and tiny size, we don't recommend her with young children or dogs larger than her size. Abigail is a wonderful sweetheart who is so easy to love. She's looking for a home that she can keep forever. Can it be with you? For more information about Abigail, please contact her foster at oatmeal2@msn.com.
To meet Abigail at an adoption event, please e-mail dogs@lostdogrescue.org or call (703)295-DOGS.

Age: Approx. 3 years
Color: White and red
Size: Approx. 55 lbs.
Status: Available with foster
Good With Kids: Yes
Good With Cats: Yes *** see note above
Good With Dogs: Yes

What are the limits on a dog like Austin? There have to be some because he's all but completely blind. He does have a tiny bit of sight in his right eye, which helps him avoid bumping into things. There's not a limit on his getting around: He finds his way through his other senses and that smidge of sight. Austin especially enjoys outings on a leash, and he settles nicely in a crate. That means there's no limit on his ability to learn and to be have good manners. What we love the most about Austin is that there is absolutely no limit on how sweet and good he is. He's a very calm and quiet dog. Austin has a generous heart that he gives freely to all he meets--people, other dogs, and even cats. He's simply one of the most content, nicest dogs around. What would it be like to have Austin in your family? Yes, he might need some small accommodations, but, when it comes to satisfaction, love, and happiness, the sky's the limit. To find out more about Austin and how to meet him, please contact his foster at linda13@mindspring.com.
To meet Austin at an adoption event, please e-mail dogs@lostdogrescue.org or call (703)295-DOGS.

Age: Approx. 1 - 2 years
Color: White and brindle
Size: Approx. 55 lbs.
Status: AVAILABLE - Crosspost
Good With Kids: Older Children
Good With Cats: Not Yet Determined
Good With Dogs: Yes

Beau is not an LDCRF dog. Please see the contact information below to find out more about adopting Beau. Beau is an ambassador to the pitbulls! He was rescued from Arkansas and came to the DC area to find a better home. An overly friendly dog, he loves to give kisses to his canine friends. He loves the dog park, dog daycare, and loves going for walks/hikes. A very loyal and loving dog, he will be your best friend. He loves having his belly rubbed, snuggling up to you, and chewing/playing with his toys. He does well on a leash, knows some basic commands (sit, come, down, no), is house-trained, and is somewhat crate-trained. An obedient dog, he trains well and aims to please. Beau has minor separation anxiety and would do best in a home where he will get alot of exercise and/or with another dog. He's an awesome dog so please don’t let his breed scare you. Beau is energetic and not aware of his own strength, so he will require structure and a strong training. Although Beau is good with kids of all ages, we feel its best not to place him in a home with younger children. Beau is looking for his forever home, could it be yours? For more information about Beau, please contact his foster at manzoy@comcast.net.

Is there a more lovable dog than an Old English sheepdog? Not if that dog is Buddy! He's such a playful and energetic boy. Buddy has a dopey-sweet quality that makes him so endearing and just a hoot to have around. Buddy loves to run and flounce around a yard, so he needs a fenced one. He cannot be let off leash because he will race away and not come back. Buddy is very strong and headstrong, so we don't recommend him with children younger than teen-aged. He does not like to have his collar grabbed by surprise. He's housetrained already and knows the "sit" command. This exuberant and outgoing dog would love to have an active and busy life with you. Can he be your best Buddy forever?

Age: Approx. 3 months

Size: Approx. 8 lbs.
Status: Available with foster
Good With Kids: Yes

"Bunchy" is so named because his skin and fur as being "bunchy"--soft and cuddly. He still has his "baby fat" and is adorable! Bunchy is likely to perk up when he sees you and skip over to give you a hello kiss. He looks somewhat similar to Lucy (further down on this website page), who's black/dark brown with white markings. Bunchy doesn't always run with the pack, he's an independent thinker and is assertive in his own right. He's not the most energetic of the bunch and his motor skills aren't always as quick and fluid as his littermates, but he is just a love of a puppy and you may fall in love with him at first sight and have to take him home! It's hard to say what breed mix Buster is. He came to us designated as a shepherd mix, but no one really knows. Maybe it's better to describe his personality so you can get to know him a bit. He's a very playful and enthusiastic dog. He's also very friendly and quite the tail-wagger. If you're looking for an outgoing and perky dog, Buster could be the one for you. Cute and happy might not be a breed mix, but it sure makes for one great pet. That's our Buster.

Caesar

Thank You Jenny & Brett for becoming the Pal for Paws Sponsor of Caesar

Breed: Rhodesian ridgeback mix
Sex: Male
Age: Approx. 1 1/2 years
Color: Tan w/ white
Size: Approx. 50 lbs.
Status: Available with foster
Good With Kids: Older Children
Good With Cats: Not Yet Determined
Good With Dogs: Yes

Caesar's good looks are so eye catching, you'll be sure to notice him! Caesar is a big goofy dog that loves nothing better than playing tug of war with his foster parents. He's learned to be quite a retreiver and will play fetch in the back yard until he collapses. He also loves the water and will trounce around like a puppy when he gets the chance! Caesar was rescued from Georgia and remembered to bring his manners with him, he is crate-trained, housetrained and, with some direction, will walk nicely on his leash. Caesar responds well to training with food rewards. However, we don't recommend him with young children because he sometimes can be a bit mouthy when playing and gets protective of his favorite things. He can also jump a six foot fence so he'd need a larger one or supervision in the yard. Ideally, Caesar's new home would have an experienced dog owner who can continue his training and provide all the love this affectionate and happy guy could ever ask for! Find out more about Caesar at www.dogster.com/dogs/779484. For more information about Caesar, please contact his foster at lanadogfoster@gmail.com.

Finding a great buddy dog or family dog can be as easy as meeting Carlos. Our good-time boy is very affectionate and friendly, so everyone immediately likes him. Carlos learns very quickly because he's smart and eager to please. In fact, he's already housetrained, crate-trained, and pretty good on a leash. Carlos likes to have fun, too, and loves to play ball. He does have a funny walk that came about in a most unfunny way, though. Sometime in his past, he was shot with buckshot and his whole backend is still loaded with it. The buckshot apparently tore muscles that healed imperfectly and left him with one leg slightly shorter and an uneven gait. There's no reason to remove the buckshot, and all the healing is done and set. Carlos has adjusted and has maintained his great love and affection for people. He's just a great dog that enjoys being with his people and gives his complete loyalty and love. What more could you want in a friend for life? For more information about Carlos, please contact his foster at lostdogbarb@gmail.com.

Danny

Thank You Melissa for becoming the Pal for Paws Sponsor of Danny

Breed: Hound mix
Sex: Male
Age: Approx. 1 year
Color: White and lemon
Size: Approx. 30 lbs.
Status: Available with foster
Good With Kids: No
Good With Cats: Not Yet Determined
Good With Dogs: Yes

Danny is a marvelous hound with a playful spirit, a super-sweet disposition, and the cutest pink nose. He starts each day at 100 wags per minute (wpm) and looks up at you hopefully to see what’s in store. In his ideal day, there would be some time to romp, some time to roll, and some time to crawl into your lap. Oh, and another doggie friend to play with would be nice (he’s best friends with his Labrador foster brother). This sweetie soaks up affection from humans and instigates play with his fellow canines. Danny, however, is very anxious around children, so his new home should be adults only. He is absolutely irresistible when batting around an oversized, plush squeak toy (his favorite pastime). Danny has blossomed in his foster home: He's already housetrained and crate-trained, knows “sit,” and has nice leash manners. He enjoys long walks and car rides. He’s still got some puppy in him, so he will need to be crated when unsupervised until he earns more freedom. He’d appreciate a fenced yard, lots of exercise, and an experienced dog owner who is willing to continue his training. But what he mostly yearns for is lots of love – which he’ll return tenfold – and a home to call his own. Can he find it with you? For more information about Danny, please contact his foster at melissadogrescue@earthlink.net or 571-244-7634.
To meet Danny at an adoption event, please e-mail dogs@lostdogrescue.org or call (703)295-DOGS.

Deeday

Age: Approx. 1 - 1 1/2 years
Color: Black with white
Size: Approx. 55 lbs.
Status: AVAILABLE - Crosspost
Good With Kids: Yes
Good With Cats: Not Yet Determined
Good With Dogs: Yes

Deeday is not an LDCRF dog. Please see the contact information below to find out more about adopting Deeday. Deeday's turning point was June 6 (D-Day), which explains how he got his name. Before then, he spent six months who-knows-where in New Jersey before spending another six months in a shelter in that state. On that date, his time was up, but, luckily, he was rescued and adopted. In spite of the setbacks of his past, Deeday hopped in the backseat of his adopter's car and sat down as if he knew he finally had a future. Now he must find a new home because family circumstances have made it too difficult to keep him with their other three dogs.
Deeday has a lot of energy and exuberance. This boy loves to run and play, and he needs someone who will enjoy his boundless enthusiasm and strength. A good workout makes him a happy and calmer dog! (If he gets tired on a run, he plops down on his stomach to catch his breath.) Deeday is very attentive and eager to please, so he was a quick learner in his obedience training. This handsome dog also has his silly side, too. He can make a 360 turn from sitting down to earn a treat. It's his whirlygig trick! Deeday is a friendly dog who needs an active and involved life with his new family. Deeday enjoys life with gusto and gives his love and loyalty wholeheartedly. He's ready to be yours forever. For more information about Deeday, please contact his foster at doug.allen@navy.mil.

   Duncan

Thank You Melissa Jackson for becoming the Pal for Paws Sponsor of Duncan

Breed: Pit bull terrier/American bulldog mix
Sex: Male
Age: Approx. 10 years
Color: Blue brindle
Size: Approx. 60 lbs.
Status: Available
Good With Kids: Yes
Good With Cats: Not Yet Determined
Good With Dogs: Yes

This sweet boy has a heart murmur that should be evaluated by a cardiologist--a visit that will cost about $500. We are hoping that with the help of donations, we can get him the care he deserves and find him a wonderful forever home.
Duncan is a gentle giant with a big head and a big heart. This smart boy is perfectly crate-trained, housetrained, and knows all of his commands. He loves to be near his people, so wherever you are, he is probably napping somewhere nearby. Duncan is very friendly, so friendly in fact that when he was a stray, he snuck in through someones cat door to take a snooze on their porch! Imagine their surprise! The man that owned the house loved the old guy, but was unable to keep him and brought him to Lost Dog. Duncan is still underweight and could stand to gain about eight pounds. His lack of food in his previous life has made him possessive of his food and toys with other dogs, but he is improving. He is great around his food with people, and is starting to learn that there is plenty of food now and that he doesn't need to worry about going hungry ever again. He is otherwise great with dogs and loves to play with his buddies. When this great guy is ready to find his forever home, could it be with you? Easton

Breed: Lab/Beagle mix
Sex: Male
Age: Approx. 3 years
Color: Black
Size: Approx. 53 lbs.
Status: Available with foster
Good With Kids: Yes
Good With Cats: Not Yet Determined
Good With Dogs: Yes

Easton is a very loving, affectionate dog that loves to be around people. This friendly boy lavishes his licks on everyone and gives giddy wags of greeting. Easton still has a puppyish abundance of energy and a neverending desire to play. This boy is very energetic and needs to be active, so he needs a fenced yard to zoom in. Easton really enjoys playing with other dogs, and he greets them by lying down submissively. Once he meets another dog he really wants to romp. Maybe Easton is just what your dog needs--a dynamic pooch that flat-out plays! Easton adores children, but he can overwhelm some with his enthusiasm. (He does need to learn not to jump up on people.) Easton does settle down, so he can be trusted to freely roam a home. He's also completely housetrained. He especially enjoys lying on the couch or bed during the day. Easton plays with all his heart and gives all of his heart to his family. Is there a place for a fun-loving and happy dog in your home? For more information, please contact bobkaat@yahoo.com or 703-726-8166.

Age: Approx. 8 - 9 months
Color: Chocolate and white
Size: Approx. 35 lbs.
Status: Available
Good With Kids: Yes

Good With Dogs: Yes

Ella is a sweet and loving girl. She's friendly but can be shy around loudness or assertiveness. Ella gets rather meek then, so we think she's better with lots of easy petting and encouragement. It might take her a little time to get comfortable, but, once she does, you'll see how playful and devoted this girl is. She's ready to really blossom in your home and give her whole heart to you. Can Ella find a new life with you?

Ellen

Thank You In memory of Moxy and Ellie (a former LDCRF dog) for becoming the Pal for Paws Sponsor of Ellen

Breed: Spitz mix
Sex: Female
Age: Approx. 7 years
Color: White
Size: Approx. 55 lbs.
Status: Available with foster
Good With Kids: Older Children
Good With Cats: Not Yet Determined
Good With Dogs: Yes

Ellen has all the attributes for a dog that can quickly fit into a someone's life. Our plump girl is laid-back and enjoys loafing a good part of the day. She does like to get up and go some, too. She likes to go for a nice walk and is good on a leash. (Maybe she can stroll a few pounds off, too!) Ellen also rides very well in a car: She just stays put and watches the world roll by. This good girl is housetrained already, too. Ellen gets along with other dogs but doesn't want to share her space or food with them. She probably would be best suited for a quieter home without young children. Would you like a dog that likes to relax some, get out some, and give her heart completely? Ellen could be the girl for you. For more information about Ellen, please contact her foster at rewizard@comcast.net.

Elvis is housetrained and crate-trained already, walks well on a leash and knows the commands of sit and shake! He's a very gentle boy and would be a wonderful companion for adults and children alike. Elvis is not a barker, gives just the right number of kisses (not too much and not too slobbery), rides well in the car and aims to please. He'll happily be up for a run or a game of fetch and just as happily curl up next to you for a nap and cuddles. He's move in ready -- all he needs is a home with lots of love. Sex: Male
Age: Approx. 3 years
Color: Tan w/ white
Size: Approx. 7 lbs.
Status: Available with foster
Good With Kids: Older Children
Good With Cats: Not Yet Determined

Little Ernie made the mistake of trying to explore the big world all by himself—-his not so wondrous adventures have made him a little slow to trust. However, once he feels safe, he is a devoted cuddle bunny who wants nothing more than a spot close to you where he is on constant alert to see if you need a quick dose of puppy love. Ernie is housetrained and has good doggie manners but is so unsure of the outside world that he needs human company to go with him outside. Age: Approx. 5 - 6 years
Color: Tricolor

Good With Dogs: Yes

All you ever wanted was a great family dog—one that’s great for the whole family all the time. That’s our Frances. This girl has perfect family dog written all over her in beautiful tricolor. She’s a very sweet dog that is completely gentle and nurturing with children, including babies and toddlers. Frances was once a mother herself and now enjoys being a tender friend to kids. This good girl has perfect house manners, including being completely housetrained and trustworthy to freely roam in the house. Frances stays off furniture and only takes what’s hers—not your food or things. She limits herself to her own toys and food. Frances loves to go for walks but is content to do it on your schedule. She happily joins your invitation for a stroll or stays curled up inside, if you prefer. Frances walks very well on a leash and is even easy to handle if you’re holding her leash and pushing a stroller! One of her favorite pastimes is sleeping in the sun on a deck. When she’s nicely rested and toasted, she even “knocks” on the door to let you know that she’s ready to come in. Frances is a wonderfully polite dog. She greets people nicely without ever jumping; rarely barks; and rides well in a car. Frances came to us with her pups in 2006, and all found homes. Now her family has returned her to us because they are moving abroad. Frances would love to find a home that she can have forever. Would it be great to have a loving, good-natured, well-mannered dog like Frances? Even better--it would be perfect. For more information about Frances, please contact her foster at joynluck@gmail.com.
